What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming

“The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives”

William James
Father of modern psychology

There are many definitions of NLP:

i) “NLP is a process of modelling human excellence”

ii) “NLP is an attitude and a methodology, which leaves behind a trail of techniques”

Dr Richard Bandler, Co-creator of NLP

iii) “NLP is an accelerated learning strategy for the detection and utilisation of patterns in the
world” John Grinder, Co-creator of NLP

iv) NLP studies how we structure our inner experience;

v) NLP is a practical and powerful approach to personal change.

NLP can be seen as a composite of all of the above.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming comes from three different fields of study:

N – Neuro:
The nervous system through which our experience is processed via the five senses
(Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory);

L – Language:
How we use language and other non-verbal communication systems to code our
experiences and given meaning. This includes pictures, sounds, feelings, smells,
tastes,words (self talk and internal dialogue);

P – Programming:
The way we sequence our actions to achieve personal goals.
